6th-Jul-2009 08:57 pm - Fic (The Pretender/DEBS): Bad Girls Go Everywhere (crossover, Jarod/ Miss P)
pretendermisspandgun
Happy Birthday [info]bantha_fodder!

I wrote you The Pretender/ DEBS fic! And Miss Parker is a DEB! No, I can't believe it hasn't been done before either!

Bad Girls Go Everywhere
The Pretender/ DEBS (crossover, Jarod/ Miss P)
Author’s Notes: Miss Parker spends her college years at the DEBS Academy. Time lines have been manipulated to accomplish this. Also, it’s Jarod/ Miss Parker, which seems a waste of a good femslash setting but what can we do? It’s our OTP. If it helps at all, try to picture a Miss Parker/ Max tryst somewhere before this story is set.

The secret test in the SATS clearly doesn’t measure self preservation. )

From the Stars, Knowledge
Star Trek: Voyager/ Firefly crossover (Janeway and ensembles, PG)
Author's Notes: Written for the [info]multiverse5000 2009. My prompt: "Voyager's new holoprogram is a space western." And well, yes, that's sort of what this is about.

These ships aren’t even warp capable. She doesn’t know how they stay in the sky. )
HCL - Billy in the mirror
I haven't recced in ages. And to tell you the truth, this isn't really a recs post. But here's a few things I've been meaning to mention to the wider community of my LJ for a while:

1. Multi-fandom 48 Hour Fic Challenge

The [info]bordellinos (old West Wing group in which we sometimes hold challenges which no one completes) held a challenge to write a story within 48 hours. The results are not only fabulous, but also feature some pretty interesting fandoms:

[info]furies wrote No Clowns at the Circus Today (The L Word, Bette, post-series)

[info]pene wrote Still the Guilty Cannot Sleep (The Mentalist, Lisbon and Jane)

[info]intl_princess wrote Nothing Left to Burn (Gossip Girl, Chuck/ Blair)

[info]cappuccinogirl wrote Three Women (Californication, Hank and his women)

[info]azurejay wrote I'll Give You a Match if You Need It (RPF, Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump)

2. Chasing Rainbows Recaps

[info]catechism is recapping an old Paul Gross TV show, Chasing Rainbows and it's hilarious (the recaps, not the show. Although the show is hilarious in that "laugh or you'll cry" way). The pilot episode recap is on her Dreamwidth journal here but why not pour yourself a martini or a daiquiri or just grab a bottle of something stiff and read the whole lot, because television used to be sad and we should all get drunk and laugh at it.

3. Recs and Meta

[info]nrrrdy_grrrl runs a journal of fanfiction called Further and mixed in with a lot of meta and insightful thoughts about fandoms such as DCverse, Trek, Supernatural (mostly Supernatural) and X-Files, there's a bunch of interesting recommendations from now and before and beyond. For those who love to meta their brains out and just enjoy talk about fic.

4. Recs

If you haven't come across it already, [info]dodificus has the good shit and these days this is where I get the majority of my crack. This is largely because she recs Rodney/ John, Sam/ Dean, Kowalski/ Fraser, Merlin/ Arthur and, well, you understand.

Of course, there's other stuff in there and if you take a look, you'll see there's a good variety, but it's a recs journal only and I rarely disagree with her taste, so it can't be bad, right?*

So check out something new today!

* this does not mean she recs dark and depressing stories about characters in the middle of an existential angst crisis, okay? Don't give me that look.
18th-May-2009 09:35 pm - Fic (Due South): Brilliant (NC-17)
due south - easy money
Brilliant
Due South (Fraser/ Kowalski, NC-17)
Author's Notes: Written for the [info]bordellinos 48 Hour Fic Challenge. Prompt from [info]cappuccinogirl and Lori McKenna.

As the challenge suggests, this story was written in 48 hours (or so). It's been through a couple of edits but I'm sure I've missed things so feel free to a) point them out or b) pretend you never saw them. It's your call.

With 48 hour fic I think you kind of get what you pay for, so I'm apologising in advance, not only for any flaws, but for this story not being the Due South fic I wanted to write.

I'm not a winner, I'm just brilliantly bitter - Lori McKenna.

In retrospect, words might have saved them. )

Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (PG-13)
Author's Notes: So I really did write Dr Horrible fic. That was unexpected. Dr Horrible, post-story. Feel free to sing the following if you're so inclined.

There's no happy ending. Not for me anyway. )

L word - Shane by mako_icons
Happy International Women's Day ladies! Hope you all have a lady to celebrate with (even if it's your mum - especially if it's your mum!).

As a personal tribute to the ladies in my world, I would like to recommend some good femslash - all by [info]jengrrrl, whose femslash in any fandom is totally worth recommending, but I'll suggest these three in my favourite fandoms for a taste.

Chuck/ DCU
The Stars Go Waltzing Out In Blue and Red - Sarah Walker meets Diana Prince. That this story was written at all blows me away but that it's written so perfectly is just gravy. Diana is cool and poised (a very Linda Carter Diana) and Sarah is tortured and somehow they meet in the middle.

The L Word
A Horse that Runs in the Heart - Shane/ Jenny - over the break between season 5 and 6, I got to shipping Shane and Jenny. And I wanted to write something beautiful and terrible to reflect how I felt about the relationship, especially as it stood at the end of season 5. And I sort of looked for fic but didn't really think I'd find anything good, so I didn't look too hard. And then this fic showed up somewhere in my flist and it was everything I wanted the relationship to be. The show has kind of fucked me over on this ship, but there is always this fic and I still believe it could have been like this, it could!

Merlin
What Might Have Been Lost
Gwen/ Morgana - I'm a big fan of the story that takes place years in the future after the halcyon days are over. I like it painted in sort of grey tones, melancholy and wistful, where the characters are reflections of the people they used to be but never quite hitting the right hue. This is that story. It's sad and beautiful and full of regret. We all know who these people are going to turn out, but how much of the people they are now will be left behind?
14th-Feb-2009 11:55 pm - Fic (Merlin): Ascendant (AU, NC-17)
Merlin - pouty Arthur by Killcolor
Ascendant
Merlin, (Merlin/Arthur, AU, NC-17)
Warning: Ambiguous consent
Author's Notes: This is one of 5 AUs that were written to go into a piece together but some were good and some *really* weren't so I decided to separate out the better sections and post them individually. With thanks to [info]gatefiction and [info]theonlytwin who helped with that decision and others.

Later he would blame his answer on the King’s unwavering stare. )
8th-Feb-2009 05:39 pm - Fic (Merlin): The Early Dark
Merlin - wizard boy by killcolor
The Early Dark
Merlin, Merlin/OMC, Merlin/ Arthur (of sorts), AU (NC-17)
Author's Notes: I wrote another Merlin story which [info]gatefiction and [info]theonlytwin betaed but despite their efforts it still sucked and I'm still trying to work out what to do with it. All suckage in this story is mine alone. But this was also written for the [info]bordellinos Mountain Goats challenge so maybe they can be blamed? Anyway, there's no attempt to work in with Arthurian myth (any of them) here so apologies for that too.

Phantoms in the early dark, canaries in the mines – the Mountain Goats

In many ways, you are just the same. )

[info]oz_magi authors are revealed!

Thank you, [info]lalioz and [info]rhymephile who wrote my stories. I was very pleased with my request - it produced such good results!

This was my 5th year of [info]oz_magi and I want to give major props to [info]rustler for running the operation this year and keeping one of my favourite Christmas traditions alive. The results are always surprising (and awesome!).

My story:
This is How it Ends
Oz, (Gloria/ Ryan, PG)
Author's Notes: Written for [info]lisacali for [info]oz_magi 2008.

For better or for worse, this is your relationship.
30th-Dec-2008 11:26 am - OMG! More yuletide recs!
wilson by earthlyillusion
I was going to wait until I had a few more to add to the list, but I really wanted to rec these stories while everyone is still immersed in yuletide fervour because if you miss out on these, it just won't be right.

Fairy Tales (Trad)
Fire, Measured by What Doesn’t Burn
I think you would all do yourself a great disservice if you didn’t read this story. It’s just that damned good. It’s thought provoking, it’s topical, it’s profound, original and clever - and my personal pick for the “must read” of [info]yuletide The story re-imagines the “12 Dancing Princesses,” and while this isn’t the first time that story has had a good reworking (thanks, Jeanette Winterson) it’s never been told like this before.

The Forty Year Old Virgin
10 Ways to Prove You’re Not Gay
I went out and bought the movie, I liked this story so much. Another dab-hand writer who makes it look effortless. I hate these people! *g* This should be sillier than it is, but it isn’t and it’s actually funny, clever and endearing.

Dead Poets Society
Life in the Subjunctive
I really hate how some people can work a drabble. It’s so unfair! This is a set of five drabbles and they’re all very poignant and poignant but it was the last one that got me. *Sniff.*
